API (Application Programming Interface)

A set of protocols enabling different software systems to communicate with each other.

An Application Programming Interface (API) is a set of rules and protocols that allows different software applications to communicate with each other. For B2B SaaS tools, a robust API is critical for integrations, automations, and building custom workflows. REST and GraphQL are the most common API styles. When evaluating SaaS tools, the quality and documentation of an API is an important factor, especially for technical teams.
