How this calculator works

Formula

  • Hourly cost = monthly revenue ÷ 730
  • Incident cost = hourly cost × downtime hours
  • Annual risk = incident cost × 12

Inputs

InputUnitDefault
Monthly Revenue ($)USD/monthempty (placeholder "e.g. 50000")
Downtime Duration (hours)hoursempty (placeholder "e.g. 2")

Outputs

Hourly Cost:
Monthly revenue ÷ 730
This Incident:
Hourly cost × downtime hours (returned by the API as "monthlyLoss")
Annual Risk:
This-incident cost × 12

Assumptions

  • 730 hours per month (365 days × 24 hours ÷ 12)
  • All revenue is assumed to be lost evenly per hour of downtime
  • Annual risk assumes the same incident recurs once every month (×12)
  • Results are rounded to whole US dollars

Worked example

Inputs: $50,000/month revenue, 2 hours downtime

Result: Hourly Cost $68; This Incident $137; Annual Risk $1,644

Results are estimates from the inputs you provide and the assumptions above, not financial advice.
