Every tool review on ToolCompared is based on hands-on testing and a consistent scoring framework. Here's exactly how we evaluate software.

Ease of Use
Onboarding experience, UI clarity, time to first value.
Features
Breadth and depth of core functionality vs. competitors, including integrations and API quality.
Value for Money
Price relative to features, free plan quality, pricing transparency.
Customer Support
Response time, documentation quality, community.
How the Overall Score Works
Every review publishes four criterion scores out of 10. The overall score is our editors' verdict for the typical buyer in that category, informed by those four scores — it is not a fixed weighted average, so it can sit above or below the simple mean when one criterion matters more for the category. The four criterion scores are always shown next to it so you can weigh them for your own needs.
Testing Process
- Sign up for a free trial or request a demo account
- Complete the onboarding flow and document friction points
- Test all core use cases defined for that category
- Contact customer support and document response time and quality
- Review pricing pages and attempt to find hidden costs
- Score each criterion independently out of 10
- Set the overall score as an editorial verdict informed by the four criterion scores
- Write review and have it peer-reviewed by a second team member
Review Freshness
All reviews include a "last updated" date. We re-review tools when major product updates occur, or at minimum every 12 months. Outdated reviews are clearly flagged.
