Every tool review on ToolCompared is based on hands-on testing and a consistent scoring framework. Here's exactly how we evaluate software.
Scoring Criteria
Ease of Use (20%)
Onboarding experience, UI clarity, time to first value.
Features (25%)
Breadth and depth of core functionality vs. competitors.
Value for Money (20%)
Price relative to features, free plan quality, pricing transparency.
Integrations (15%)
Native integrations, API quality, Zapier/Make support.
Customer Support (10%)
Response time, documentation quality, community.
Reliability (10%)
Uptime track record, incident handling, SLA commitments.
Testing Process
- Sign up for a free trial or request a demo account
- Complete the onboarding flow and document friction points
- Test all core use cases defined for that category
- Contact customer support and document response time and quality
- Review pricing pages and attempt to find hidden costs
- Score each criterion independently, then calculate weighted average
- Write review and have it peer-reviewed by a second team member
Review Freshness
All reviews include a "last updated" date. We re-review tools when major product updates occur, or at minimum every 12 months. Outdated reviews are clearly flagged.
