DORA Metrics Self-Assessment

Assess your engineering team's DevOps performance using the DORA framework.

Deployment Frequency

How often does your team deploy to production?

Lead Time for Changes

How long does it take from code commit to production?

Change Failure Rate

What percentage of deployments cause a production failure?

Mean Time to Restore

How long does it take to recover from a production failure?

How to use the DORA Metrics Self-Assessment

  1. Answer four questions. Rate your team on Deployment Frequency, Lead Time, Change Failure Rate, and MTTR.
  2. Receive your score. Get an overall DORA performance level: Elite, High, Medium, or Low.
  3. Act on recommendations. Follow the tailored recommendations to move to a higher performance tier.

How this calculator works

Formula

  • Each answer scores 4 (Elite option), 3 (High), 2 (Medium) or 1 (Low)
  • Average = (sum of 4 scores) ÷ 4
  • Level: avg ≥3.5 Elite; ≥2.5 High; ≥1.5 Medium; else Low

Outputs

{Level} Performer:
Level from average score: ≥3.5 Elite, ≥2.5 High, ≥1.5 Medium, else Low
Average DORA score:
Sum of 4 answer scores ÷ 4, shown to 1 decimal "/ 4.0"

Assumptions

  • Deploy freq: multiple/day=4; once/day–once/week=3; once/week–once/month=2; once/month or less=1
  • Lead time: under 1 day=4; 1 day–1 week=3; 1 week–1 month=2; over 1 month=1
  • Time to restore: under 1 hour=4; 1 hour–1 week=3; 1 week–1 month=2; over 1 month=1
  • Change failure rate: 0–5%=4; 5–10%=3; 10–15%=2; >15%=1
  • The result is shown once all 4 questions are answered

Worked example

Inputs: scores 3, 3, 2, 3

Result: Average 2.75 → shown "2.8 / 4.0" → High Performer

Results are estimates from the inputs you provide and the assumptions above, not financial advice.
